The Philly trip and my personal experience
Ashlie Anderson --
The trip to Philadelphia trip seemed extremely long; but then again
it was! Our flight was to leave in the evening but because of weather
it was delayed even later. However, Shanneil and I finally reached
Philadelphia and made it to our hotel.
We started the conference with an activity called “City As
Text.” In this activity, attendees are broken up into their
pre-registered groups and sent off to different parts of Philadelphia.
Our job was to take copious notes on our observations of Philadelphia
and to interview citizens about living in this city. Shanneil and
I were not pre-registered so we were sent to south Philadelphia.
We thought we were going to the historical part of Philadelphia;
however we actually went to the area where the Italian Market was
located. The trip to south Philadelphia was quite an interesting
experience. We saw many different aspects of Philadelphia, both
positive and negative.
For the rest of the conference, we attended lectures and presentations
on improving your honors college. We learned valuable ways to help
our honors college and improve our membership. In addition, we made
several friends from across the country. We made connections to
other honors colleges that I’m sure will help us in the future.
We were able to see the amazing historical sites of Philadelphia
on our trip. We even went to a restaurant whose employees dressed
in clothing appropriate for the time period of George Washington!
We saw the Liberty Bell and we were lucky enough to get an after
hours tour of the Carpenter Building! Being able to see all these
incredible historical sites made my trip truly wonderful!
